Choosing the right construction turnstile is essential for effective site access control, jobsite security, workforce visibility, and compliance. Learn how construction turnstiles, automated access control, and workforce management systems can help contractors improve safety and efficiency on site.

Construction turnstile providing secure site access control, contractor access control, and workforce visibility on a construction jobsite.

If you've ever visited a construction jobsite, you'll instantly recognize one of these.

The turnstile.

These robust rotating pieces of access control hardware are usually found at entrance and exit (access and egress) points on secure construction jobsites. The turnstile is the centerpiece and gateway for workers with proven credentials to access site; those without appropriate credentials are not permitted to enter. Used in conjunction with workforce management software and data capture technology, it is the first step in controlling a safe and secure jobsite environment.

At Biosite, part of ASSA ABLOY, the global leader in access solutions, our full-height turnstiles are designed and manufactured in the United States, developed specifically for the realities of US construction jobsites. Each unit integrates with CrewSight workforce management software to help contractors manage security, safety, efficiency and compliance on site.

How do I choose a construction turnstile?

Reliability and robustness are key considerations when choosing the right turnstile for your jobsite, along with value, portability and ease of installation.

Construction is a demanding environment. Turnstiles need to withstand weather, dust, heavy daily use and the reality of being redeployed from one site to the next. That's why our turnstiles are built with:

  • A steel metal base with skid-resistant traction floor for all-weather conditions, no mounting or pouring required.
  • An IP-67 TUV rated system, providing up to 100 feet of burial-rated low voltage cabling from the turnstile to the power source.
  • Powder coating for durability and longevity.
  • Modular design, use a unit standalone or connect unlimited units together using the included mending plates, which aid connections to fence lines, structures or additional turnstiles.

Every unit arrives fully assembled and is available for rent or purchase, so contractors can match access control to the demands of each project and each phase.

Same-day ready construction site access control, no electrician required

One of the most practical advantages on a live jobsite is speed of deployment. Our turnstiles are Same Day Ready, quick installation with no electrician needed.

The Site Safe compact power supply system is designed to provide an easy, no-fuss start-up. A simple 3-prong plug for a 110-volt outlet is generator ready, and built-in cellular-enabled access controls mean the unit is ready to connect and start capturing workforce data quickly. Keyed on/off switches and an exterior ethernet port with weather seal round out a design that's built for the field.

A construction site turnstile for every jobsite requirement

Jobsites vary in size, layout and access needs, so we offer a range of full-height turnstiles made in America:

  • Turnstile 32 (TS32): A portable full-height single-lane turnstile with metal base, featuring LED-illuminated walkways and a skid-resistant traction floor. Same Day Ready, generator-ready and IP-67 TUV rated. Also weighs 985 lbs and includes an exterior ethernet port with weather seal.
  • Turnstile 60 (TS60): A portable full-height, two-lane enclosed turnstile weighing 2,550 lbs, with a 15-amp 125v inlet, integrated floor drains, LED-illuminated interior walkways, and a lockable roller door for additional security. Fork pockets from all sides support easy repositioning. It also offers a customized graphics option, useful for branding or wayfinding at busy gate points.

Each of these turnstiles integrates directly with CrewSight, working alongside the software using built-in proprietary technology to provide accurate daily headcounts and notifications of unauthorized entry attempts.

Benefits of using construction turnstiles on your jobsite

1. Fast and secure site access

Our heavy-duty turnstiles provide robust, secure pedestrian access to site. When linked to CrewSight, access is granted quickly and only authorized personnel with the necessary documentation are permitted through the gate, giving you real-time visibility of who is on site at any time, including their company and trade affiliation.

2. Improved safety and compliance

Used with CrewSight workforce management software, turnstiles make it easy to enforce access rules and restrict entry when a worker's credentials, license or training have expired. This helps ensure only competent, authorized personnel are on site, and it supports the labor registers, attendance records and compliance reporting that health and safety teams rely on during audits and inspections.

3. Reduced administration and equipment theft

By replacing manual, paper-based processes with automated data capture at the gate, turnstiles reduce administrative burden while helping secure your site and reduce equipment theft. CrewSight lets you track hours by individual, company, trade or jobsite, and generate automated reports, freeing up managers from repetitive site checks and manual attendance tracking.

4. Portability and value

Because our turnstiles are portable and arrive fully assembled, they can be redeployed from one jobsite to another as project needs evolve. Available for rent or purchase, they give contractors a flexible way to align access control with the phase and budget of each project.

Choosing the right construction access control solution

Jobsites are unique. They vary in location and size, and sometimes it's simply not possible to fit a turnstile at every access point. To make sure the right access control choice is made for each project, a comprehensive site survey is strongly recommended.

At Biosite, we offer a range of access control solutions so that all types of projects can capture accurate workforce data, and it's often possible to combine options depending on what data needs recording and where on site the device will be used:

  • Full-height turnstiles (TS32, TS60) for controlled pedestrian access and egress.
  • Door access control- including the Central Controller Unit (CCU) for temporary areas such as electrical rooms, jobsite trailers, lunch tents and restrooms, controlling up to eight door entries or four entry/exit points, and integrating with CrewSight for room-level access control.
  • CrewSync - rugged built for construction kiosk tablet that can be deployed for confined spaces, general worker check in/out or other time and attendance needs like workers in trailer offices.
  • Vehicle access solutions, using a portable arm barrier system with a guard booth and CrewScan to help manage deliveries, parking and general site access.
  • Phazer5 mass mustering, a handheld RFID scanning solution capable of scanning badges from up to 30 feet away, ideal for safety meetings, muster points, or jobsites where physical turnstiles aren't feasible.

Whether you're a general contractor or a subcontractor, Biosite can recommend the right access control solution for any type of site, at any stage of the project. Trusted by General Contractors since 2014 for CrewSight workforce management software and backed by ASSA ABLOY, our goal is simple: to give you insight on your jobsite.
