Biosite partners with ppac to deliver enhanced right to work solution

Biosite has joined forces with ppac, the only government certified digital identity service provider operating solely in the construction industry, to provide customers with an enhanced, seamless solution for right to work checks.

This new integration brings together Biosite workforce management software (via the Biosite Portal and Biosite Mobile app), site access control hardware and ppac’s innovative right to work technology, ensuring contractors and sub-contractors can complete rigorous verification of operatives’ ID documents with complete confidence. If required, it also means construction workers without right to work validation will not be permitted access to site.

Employers can face fines of up to £45,000 per employee for the first breach and up to £60,000 per employee for repeat breaches if they are found to be employing individuals who do not have the right to work in the UK.

The Biosite and ppac integration offers a simple, reliable and efficient solution to make sure employees are who they say they are and gives confidence to construction companies in knowing who is on their site. It reduces the risk of fraud and impersonation, safeguards H&S procedures and can help maintain the validity of site insurance premiums. All whilst reducing repetitive administration, real-time updates and more informed decision making.

It also helps contractors to maintain compliance ahead of upcoming legislative changes, which will see the end of Biometric Residence Permits from 1st January 2025, when visa holders will rely solely on their digital status to demonstrate their right to work.

The systems works by following these simple steps*:

  • Worker is directed to the ppac app as part of the Biosite online induction processes, before they start on site
  • Individual uploads applicable ID document(s) to the digital system for compliant ID verification
  • The system is verified by the Home Office to check the validity of documents against right to work requirements
  • Upon approval, operative is issued with ppac code, which is required in order to complete Biosite induction and then trigger an induction code ready to start on site
  • Optional configuration to restrict access to site

The ppac system securely stores and manages the individual’s identification documents and relevant certifications, which is integrated with hardware turnstiles where applicable, to prevent access to site if required.

Airport-style ID scanners can also be installed on site, providing an extra layer of security against identity fraud by checking documents against the individual presenting them at site entrance using facial recognition.

Individuals also have control of their own identity wallet, which they can share with new contractors for easier compliance as long as they are part of the ppac network.

Dean Tuhey, director at ppac, said: “This integration with Biosite enables easier, quicker and more reliable ID checks, to ensure the right to work status of construction workers. We’ve utilised our combined experience to develop a system that covers all possible sequences of events when onboarding a new operative, giving complete confidence for contractors and full communication for individuals.

“It’s configurable, flexible and easy to use and goes that step further by integrating with access control hardware. We understand how construction sites operate and our system removes bottlenecks in the onboarding process, whilst increasing security and compliance.”

Tim Scott, commercial director at Biosite Systems, said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with ppac and supporting construction when it comes to ensuring right to work verification.

“Our new integration reduces risks for our customers, particularly ahead of the imminent end of Biometric Residence Permits, formalising processes through a trusted digital system and providing an extra layer of security against ID fraud.

“As construction specialists, it was clear to us that this is the most effective and reliable system for our industry and enables our customers to utilise both Biosite and ppac technology to support compliance and efficiency."
